Hugo Grotius gGmbH

Hugo Grotius gGmbH is a non-profit society for the advancement of legal sciences in Germany.

The aim of the society is to advance legal science and research. This aim is achieved through its research institutes, i.e. the Institute for the Law of the Sea and International Marine Environmental Law (ISRIM) and the Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law (MLS LEGAL). Scientific research is conducted by the two institutes freely and independently.

The society is named after the Dutch jurist, reformed theologian and early theorist of natural rights (born 10 April 1583 in Delft; died 28 August 1645 in Rostock). Hugo Grotius is one of the intellectual foundingfathers of the principle of sovereignty, of the natural law doctrine and of public international law.
